Part One
They say “Do what you love, and everything will work out in the end.” That is sound advice. As an aging full-time employee of a major auto manufacturer, father of two, husband, and aspiring musician. I, like many others who can relate to this, find my life unfulfilled professionally, creatively, and spiritually. So maybe it is time to lend some credence to this mantra.
So what is it that I love to do? Well, this is a much more convoluted theme than I originally bargained for. I love horror movies, anime programming, learning multiple languages (Japanese, German, and French), I love playing music (guitar and bass guitar), and I love reading. So what do I focus on for this new career choice? How about all of them?
With my other endeavor, Evolution Music Press, where I am able to review some of the greatest indie talents out there. I can write about music in a thoughtful and exciting way which lets me explore all the greatest talents that may not be available to many of the overall public. But this doesn’t allow me to focus on my chosen genres to listen to, psychobilly, punk, surf, and metal.
This leads me to the thesis of this assertion. There are never enough hours in a day. Can I write an introspective analysis on any of these topics, enough to keep up with the multitude of other writers focussing on a centralized theme? I think the nerd community allows us to ramble about all the wonderful things in this world that make us tick while allowing us to offer fresh views about each given genre.
All of these thoughts about how to approach my obsession with the horror genre, music, and anime can all be tied together. Whether this collection of reviews, rants, and analysis can best be served in writing, a podcast, or a video, let this be a start to the approach of if I do what I love, all things will work out.
So hang on all you creatively hindered, lost in translation, wandering minstrels of geek culture. We will endeavor to have thoughtful conversations, in-depth analysis, and a generally fun time doing so. All with these cliches that make these genres great.
